Personal Data We Collect And Why We Collect It

Comments

We collect the data shown in the comments form when visitors leave comments on the site, and we also collect the visitor’s IP address & browser user agent string to detect spam.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service. This is simply to see if you are using Gravatar. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Upon approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public as related to your comment.

Gravatar Hovercards

This feature sends a hashed value of the user’s email address to the
Gravatar service in order to retrieve their profile image. This happens if logged in to HumblyNomadic.com or WordPress.com, and/or if you submit a comment using an email address affiliated with a valid Gravatar profile.

Media

If you upload images to HumblyNomadic.com, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data, (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website may download and extract any location data from images on
HumblyNomadic.com.

Contact Forms

Contact form submission data are submitted to a spam filtering service for the sole purpose of spam checking. This data can include: IP address, user agent, name, email address, website, and message. This data is stored in our database, and sent directly to the form owner. The form owner is the page author on which the contact form resides. This email includes the users’ IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you have the option to save your name, email address, and website via cookies. This is for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave subsequent comments. These cookies last for a year.

If you have an account and login to HumblyNomadic.com, we set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain personal data. It is discarded once the browser is closed.

When you login, we also set up multiple cookies to save your login information and screen display settings. Login cookies remain for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. If you check the box for “Remember Me”, your login will remain for two weeks. The login cookies will be cleared if you logout.

When an article is published or edited another cookie is saved in your browser. This cookie simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited, and does not store any personal information. It expires after a day.

If you want to clear or prevent cookies, it is a little different for each browser. Please see your specific browser’s privacy settings or help section for information on how to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking cookies may affect some website functions.

Activity

Data Used: The following data is captured to deliver website functionality and record activities related to site management: user display name, WordPress.com and local user IDs, user email address, user role, user login, the WordPress.com-connected site ID of the site on which the activity takes place, the site’s Jetpack version, the activity to be recorded, and the timestamp of the activity. Some activities may also include the users’s IP address (number of login attempts, for example) and user agent.

Activity Tracked: Login attempts & actions, post & page updates, publish actions, comment/pingback submission & management actions, widget updates, user management actions, plugin & theme management actions, and the modification of other various site settings & options. Retention duration depends on the site’s plan and activity type. See the full list of currently recorded activities (along with retention information).

Embedded Content From Other Websites

Articles on this site can include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Be aware that embedded content from outside websites behave in the same way as if the user has visited the other website directly.

These third party websites may collect data about you, embed additional third-party tracking, use cookies, and track your actions with that embedded content. This can include tracking your interactions with embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that third party website.

Analytics

Please refer to the Google Analytics documentation for the specific type of data they collect. Google Analytics offers IP anonymization, which may be enabled by the website. This feature sends page view events (and potentially video play events) to Google Analytics for analytical purposes.

The following information (made available from the visitor’s browser) is collected and may be sent to HumblyNomadic.com’s partners: IP address, geographical data (derived from the IP address), operating system, device type, user agent, unique user ID (randomly generated identifier), current URL, and IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) interest category. Various cookies are used for the following: delivering targeted advertisements to specific visitors, collecting anonymous ad platform stats, and storing user identifiers.
